In case of emergency...

If any child or young person needs urgent support with their mental health, the following services are available to help.

Never be afraid or ashamed to ask for support – it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Locally:

  • Make an appointment to see your GP

  • Call NHS 111 and listen for the option to access your local Mental Health Crisis team

  • Attend your nearest A&E department.

Nationally:

The Samaritans – a 24 hour a day service – call 116 123 for free.

Childline (for children & young people only) - 0800 1111 (UK), 24/7 – as well as online chat and talkboards.

Shout (for children, young people and adults). Text Shout to 85258 (UK) for confidential, SMS-based support

Making a safety plan

If a young person is feeling hopeless about their life, or having suicidal thoughts, it can help them to sit down with someone they trust, and think about practical ways to stay safe.

These extremely difficult thoughts and feelings will pass, but in the meantime, it's important to talk to a friend or family member and create a ‘safety plan’ together.
